Subject: dadafest and animal cruelty
I just spoke to "MB" who is the producer of Dadafest.
When we first
spoke,
he said that he would never have the Extreme Elis act again
and he
regretted
what had happened. Then I asked for his last name & asked
why. I
explained
that I was part of a listserve and that I am a writer for
various local
magazines and newspapers. AT that point, he said that he would
not
commit
to anything "for public consumption" and he would
neither say he would
nor
would not hire Extreme Elvis again. He then went on to say
that as far
as
he knew, the chickens were not harmed and were in fact shipped
off to
become
"free range" chickens after the show. I pointed
out that that would do
them
little good if they were dead. He said that as far as he knew,
no
animals
were harmed. I said that was quite at odds with what I had
heard. And
there we were. He repeated that he was not admitting htere
was cruelty
to
animals (a strong current of fear in his voice) and that he'd
only said
earlier that he would not re-hire Extreme Elvis "to calm
you down, I
thought
you were a hysteric." I said, "Do I sound hysterical,
sir?"
I suggest that
anyone who cares about animals -- and most especially
anyone
who saw harm done to the chickens and can testify about it
-- call "MB"
at
415-xxx-xxxx.
BTW he said that
SF Animal Control had been to see him. He didn't say
what
they were doing or that he'd been charged with any wrongdoing.
I hope others will
get involved in this. It's really sickening to see
someone first of all allow such cruelty, and then deny it
out of fear.

Subject: Dadafest, again
As I sent that last post about the dadafest, my phone rang.
It was
"MB"
calling to apologize for being rude to me and mis-stating
his case. He
said
that they would never knowingly have someone onstage who abused
animals. I
appreciated the apology, but didn't have the presence of mind
to ask if
they
had allowed the show to be repeated on both nights of the
dadafest this
year.
